We've all heard at least once a legend that has made us vibrate. But where did they come from? It is said that the first organized groups who took this literary genre as a communication tool were nothing more and nothing less than religious orders, since its main aim was to instill fear in their parishioners to keep them under control.
Among the characteristics that we can find a legend highlights the fact that elements of the time when the action happens exalt. For example, values and customs that were kept in the time in which the related events took place.
That said, we can easily realize that throughout the history of mankind there have been countless examples of legends which even today remain relevant. And the style in which are narrated or written, gives them unique characteristics.
For example, there are mythical fables that make use of historic environments to build what is being said, while others tend to be much more fantastic.
Without going any further, in the second section we could find stories of witches and ghosts that very often have the people of the United States of America on the dates celebrated on Halloween.
In contrast, if we decide to "jump the pond" to see that legends have been told over and over again, we would see that there is in England a mythical figure that continues. Obviously I am referring to King Arthur, medieval literature character whose exploits have transcended whole centuries.
Around his brave and gallant figure several sub plots are woven appealing. So on one hand we have the adventures of Merlin and the other the discovery of Excalibur, the sword that accompanied the monarch in profuse battles.
Finally, we can only say that legends never cease to exist, because people need this kind of stories not only to learn valuable lessons, but also to let our imaginations.
