fourth Sun

The gods were delighted to have created the earth, water, fire and the region of the dead (Mictlan). But they realized that the sun shone very little and not heated. They met in council to recreate the sun. Tezcatlipoca volunteered to be the sun began to illuminate the Earth, starting the first Sol or the first era.

Queatzalcóalt saw him, felt like being the one who will light the world so he ran to where he was Tezcatlipoca and cast down from heaven with a blow knocking him overboard. Queatzalcóalt became sun. This was the second sun.

Tezcatlipoca tiger became his man Queatzalcóalt a blow, let it angered all the winds and cyclones. People were running scared and the gods turned them into monkeys. As they had already invented the man twice, they were very discouraged because his project did not quite turn out successful. Tlaloc suddenly told them that he would be the sun, he would illuminate the earth. This was the third sun.

Everything seemed to be going well but, being the god of rain Tlaloc, was down fire from heaven, turning rivers into flames. Everyone was running scared and gods transformed people into birds so they could save. The gods were wondering what to do and when Queatzalcóalt was proposed Chalchiuhtlicue, goddess of water, to look like solar star. This was the fourth sun. Neither it paid off as there were only floods and rains and men asked to be fish to escape. The gods turned them into fish and various aquatic animals.

As it rained for days, the sky fell on earth. Queatzalcóalt and Tezcatlipoca became trees for lifting. The gods were very sad because they had failed in their attempt to create the sun and thus had destroyed the human race.
